Friends of the Frontier actively participate in the Frontier Culture Museum's mission to present the history of early immigrants who became America's settlers on the first western frontier.

The Frontier Culture Museum uses living history to teach what life was like for the common man before emigrating from England in the 1690s, Germany in the 1710's, and Northern Ireland in the 1730's. An authentic 1850's Valley of Virginia farm illustrates how these immigrants, African-Americans and Native American cultures blended and adapted to their new environment. Visitors are invited to participate by asking questions of the costumed interpreters about what they see and hear, touch exhibits on the farms, and participate in the daily farm chores of long ago.

Annual membership contributions support important exhibitions, research, and reconstruction and preservation of historic buildings and artifacts.
