In the Good Old Summertime

This is an induction to life in the past. The young camper will learn about farm animals, help in the gardens, help harvest
crops, and help get water from a German well. The campers will listen to period music and take part in an old fashion dance,
they will make a walking stick, and help prepare some tradition recipes over an open hearth fire. Campers will play
traditional games such as skittles, quoits, graces, tug of war, and sheep and wolf.


Monday's - Chores and Animals
Morning Activity - Feed and herd sheep on English farm, mucking out on English farm, feeding chickens on German farm,
filling water buckets using the well on German farm
Snack - Kool aid, crackers, cheese, carrots
Craft Activity - Making Activities Book
Games - Quoits and Skittles

Tuesday's - Plants, Gardens, Flower Pots, and Worms
Morning Activity - Group will split into two sections, one visiting the 1820 garden and the other group visiting the German
garden. The campers will help water the garden, weed the garden, and help plant or harvest items in the garden. The
campers will help dig for worms in the gardens for fishing tomorrow.
Snack
Craft Activity - Decorating flower parts and planting a flower or vegetable
Game - Graces, tug of war, skipping rope on the American farms


Wednesday's - Fishing, Walking Sticks
Morning Activity - Split the group into two groups, one will fish at the pond near England and the other group will make
walking sticks at the Settlement farm.
Snack -
Craft and Game Activity - Today the group that made walking sticks in the morning will fish and the campers who fished will
make walking sticks. Depending on how time is going the game activity will be sheep and wolf at the Irish farm
Notes/ideas: Group will visit the European farms today, with a story on the German farm, games and toys on the
Scotch-Irish farm, and songs/music on the English farm. They will then return to the Dairy Barn to have snacks and work
on a craft to take home.

Thursday's - Music, Stories, Harvesting
Morning Activity - The group will harvest flax or rye at the German farm, travel to the 1820 barn and listen to music. The
campers will have a chance to sing and dance to the music.
Snack:
Craft Activity: Making a cup and ball and old time hats out of newspaper.

Friday's - Foodways
Morning Activity - Campers will break into four groups and go to different farms to help prepare a mini meal
Snack -
Game - Sheep and Wolf
Craft Activity - Back to farms for clean up and finishing meals
Closing Activity - Presentation and eating of food cooked on the farms


"Living in the past"
Camp for the 9-12 year olds


Living in the Past

This is an advance camp for older children who will learn some of the skills needed to survive in the past. Campers will help
harvest flax and rye, work in the gardens and take home an heirloom flower, they will help herd sheep, card wool, and try
their hand at spinning. Campers will prepare a full course meal for all the campers. Campers will also have time to play
period games like town ball, graces, and quoits. Campers will hear traditional music, try their hand at fishing, and help
construct the West African farm.

Thursday
Theme - Textiles (Flax Processing, Flax Harvesting, Spinning, Weaving, working with Wool) and Puddling Mud on the West
African Farm
Farms - West African, English, Irish, German Farms
Games - Sheep and Wolf
Craft - Linen cloth bag, Making Switchel and other period drinks


Friday
Theme - Foodways (Cooking a full course meals on all farms and eating the food then cleaning on all farms)
Farms - All Farms
Games - Town Ball
