Frontier Culture Museum Volunteers
Community volunteers at the Frontier Culture Museum help to make the museum available seven days a week, all year round. From sewing costumes, greeting visitors, interpreting one of the many exhibits, driving a shuttle, or assisting in Collections, many opportunities are available. Volunteers are utilized seven days a week from before the museum opens to closing time, making it convenient to find a time that fits your schedule. Some volunteer positions require an on-going commitment, while others are one-time activities or on-call. The Museum actively encourages family or group volunteering opportunities and endeavors to place applicants with various backgrounds, ages, and interests into appropriate positions. Students with community service requirements for school or service organizations may fulfill their commitment at the museum as well. You must be 16 or older to be an Orientation Ambassador, Special Event Volunteer, or a Behind-the-Scenes Volunteer. The Museum strives to place volunteers in appropriate positions, but due to position availability or suitability, may be unable to place an applicant. Serving as the welcoming face of FCMV, Orientation Ambassadors help greet visitors, assist with way finding, thank visitors, gather feedback on visitor’s experiences, drive shuttles, costumed interpretation and perform other special assignments. Applicants for this opportunity should enjoy working with the public and great interpersonal and customer service skills. Orientation Ambassadors should enjoy working on a team, be reliable, and take show initiative. Orientation Ambassadors commit to a minimum of two 2 ½ hour shifts per month. Shifts are generally available 9:30 am–12 pm, 12–2:30 pm, and 2:30–5 pm, seven days a week.
Special Event Volunteers
The Museum holds many special events throughout the year including Oktoberfest, Lantern Tours, Independence Day Celebration, and the American Roots Music Series. Volunteers are needed for these events including: greeting, visitor check-in, driving shuttles, and event setup and take-down. Whether you want to interact with the public or do more behind-the-scenes work, special event volunteers should be able to work within a team, and be friendly, patient, and customer-service oriented.
